19 January: Very heavy rain and strong winds made fishing conditions impossible today.

17 Jan: First salmon taken by visitor from Dublin at 11lbs. Conditions good.

12 Jan: A huge storm and very heavy rain struck Kerry this morning. Currane is rising and snow is gone. Water temps are very low and we hope for opening day fish.

8 Jan: Very severe weather with ice on all roads. Very poor weather forecast for coming week. Salmon are still spawning. Redd count on Inny indicates that less fish spawned than last year ,a common complaint from all rivers in Kerry.

5 Jan: Very cold with snow and ice a strong feature. Some of the upper lakes have a covering of ice and water temps are extremely low. All salmon in hatchery have been stripped.New season is upon us and there may be some changes in the early part of the season in order to protect spring salmon. I will update as soon as possible. There will be brown tags on Inny this season and the distribution of same will be difficult due to small amount.

1 Jan 10: Very cold but at last sunshine. Some ice on upper lakes and this morning looks like a winter wonderland. The Sea Trout spawning is at an end except for some of the smaller streams. Salmon are scarce so far and we expected this with below average runs this past season. The general area of south Kerry has had a poor run of summer salmon and grilse in 08 and 09. Catches in the Kenmare Rivers were exceptionally low this past season.Spring salmon are keeping the show going and we anticipate a good spring season this season. Conditions presently are good for the system as the cold water is bringing us back to conditions not seen for many years and the norm is slowly coming back to optimum conditions for juvenile recruitment.

24 Dec: Cold weather has really taken hold with the feeder rivers now at very low level. Salmon are not as yet spawning in numbers but a rise in water will get them activated. The hatchery broodstock are in residence but are not ready to strip as yet.Waterville Fisheries Development Group hopes you have a merry Christmas and good new year.Air temps are low at -4 most nights.
